Transitional Tile Trend - by Amber Nelson

So you want your master bath to get a face lift, but going ultra modern or contemporary would fight the existing archtiecture? Try for a transitional yet balanced, interesting and sophiticated look. Combining curved and strait lines and contrasting colors and materials can bring harmony to the space.

The coneptual master bath floorplan and sketch (above) provide some visuals for such a solution. A walk in curbless shower with linear drain simplifies the space and makes it easier to clean. Coming from only one of the best tilemakers in Spain, Vives Ceramica, the large format authentically marble-looking 47”x47” porcelain floor tile leaves us with symmetry and few grout lines to worry about catching dirt. Matching the floor tile, one can use a different format of the same tile on the walls. Here, a scallop/fan shaped option provides repetitive feminine lines complimenting the squares on the floor. Floor to ceiling tile application induces the feeling of more space, while the impervious nature adds to the sanitary value.

Cloud-colored, latex, antimicrobial, mildew resistent paint, from the Sherwin Williams’ Emerald Acrylic series, on the non-wet walls, is an ideal performance paint choice. With floor to ceiling custom wood veneered Italian (Barausse) French doors, the room can also feel higher and more spacious. The wood can potentially be coordinated with the vanity bases. The presence of wood softens the space while providing desired contrast and interest.

Polished Chrome or Nickel Silver accents can provide some shine, making the room sparkle and feel even more sanitary, while being a very easy to maintain finish. To top it off, a self cleaning “intelligent,” toilet, with bidet option and heated seat add much needed warmth, enhancing the total experience.

Do you have reps to come out and give estimates and designs for bathrooms and kitchens? I want to remodel 2 barhs, a large kitchen, and remove 2 walls to open kitchen and adjoining dining room into one open space?
